How common is rosacea?

Rosacea is a common disease. The prevalence in Swedish white-collar workers has been reported to be about 10 %. Rosacea occurs more often in fair-skinned than darker-skinned individuals, especially in Celts and Northern Europeans, therefore it is called curse of the Celts. Although black people can sicken from rosacea as well. In the United States, it is estimated that one in 20, or about 13 million Americans suffer from rosacea. Women are more often affected than men, but generally they experience a less severe course of disease. Tissue and sebaceous gland hyperplasia resulting in rhinophyma affects almost exclusively men. The disease is most common between the age of 40 to 50 years and very seldom below the age of 20 years.
